[New school! Living on her own! A new and no doubt bizarre world to discover.

After finishing up registration, dropping her stuff off in her (at the time empty) new room, and bidding farewell to her parents, Annie heads out into the bright, shining outdoors (okay, it's 56 degrees and cloudy) to explore her beautiful new home.

No classes today, so there should be people hanging around campus, right? PRIORITY 1 MAKE FRIENDS, PRIORITY 2 TO BE DETERMINED LATER]

[Not many people are bundled up in heavy jackets here. Which is totally insane because jebus, 56 degrees? AND it's lightly drizzling totally raining! Jaime reflects on how this state is wack as he pulls his hood up and hunches his shoulders against the breeze before setting out to figure out where all his classes are this semester.]

So, hi, I just moved in and I'm wandering around at random. This place looks pretty wild.

Hi. I'm Jaime. I just started this school year, and I'll just say you don't know the half of it.

So...how'd you end up here?

Man, it was really sudden. One day I'm going to high school, the next day BAM, I'm being transferred to the other side of the country to a school I've never heard of.

Right...What were you up to before then? Anything interesting?

[ Illya can tell easily, even if she's not exactly in her uniform yet, considering that it's the day before classes start officially. ]

If you haven't been through this weather yet, you're still new. [ Illya is the nicest, clearly. Even if she's wearing pretty thick clothes herself. ] And for the record, I'm not the crazy one here.

Half the people here are in T-Shirts! Someone's gonna get hypothermia before the day is out. Mark my words.

[It's okay, Jaime. You have at least one kindred spirit around here. Even if Duncan didn't have a pathological aversion to cold, he'd still be the same boat because he's a native Texan.]

[Duncan steps out of one of the main buildings with an umbrella in hand, pausing under the awning to open it up, even if it is just a miserable drizzle and not actually raining. He's sporting a scarf, gloves, and a light jacket underneath a heavy winter coat.]

[He notices Jaime nearby, looking a little lost. But more importantly, he notices the way he's dressed and knows immediately that this is a kid he can fuckin relate to.]

Hey, new kid. You need some help?

It's a big campus. This is my second semester.

[Thank god, reprieve from the endless torrential downpour.]

Uh...Special intro to world history.

[The "special" is the code word for "this is a weird class." It is actually Intro to Galactic History.]

[he points toward an adjacent building] Pretty sure it's over in that building.

I take it you transferred in for the special curriculum.

Weather aside, it's way better than my local high school.
