EVENT: Snowed In
[Early Monday afternoon, the snow starts. At first, a charming novelty glimpsed through the classroom windows, but within minutes it becomes a veritable blizzard. Any classes being held outside are urged to bring themselves inside. Within half an hour, the power's cut out and the snow is piled high enough to make entry/exit from the buildings difficult. Within an hour, it's impossible. Snow is piled halfway up the first floor windows, and most of the doors have frozen shut. The second story windows seem to be working just fine, though, as are any rooftop access doors.]
[The blizzard finally calms down, but students and faculty are trapped inside--or outside, if they managed to be on the wrong side of the doors during the storm. The power's out and the cold is starting to seep in through the insulation. Worse, there seems to be some kind of unseen presence in the buildings, an eerie cackle echoing through the empty halls or an unsettling sense that you're not alone.]
[Someone's going to have to restart the generator before we end up with a school full of studentcicles. It wouldn't hurt to clear some pathways out of the buildings, either.]

[ It doesn't matter if he's a demi-god or whatever, she'll find out a way to beat him. ]
no subject
You're not supposed to say yes!
no subject
You were bluffing? [ AMAZING, DUNCAN, WOW. ] Now I'm kind of disappointed, teach.
no subject
"Doc."
I didn't spend thirty-thousand a year to be called "teach."
[he sets his hands on the chair arms] Alright fine. [and pushes himself to his feet]
If you win, you get to walk out of here free of disciplinary consequence.
If I win, you have to stay until I dismiss you, and be my TA for a week.
Do we have a contract?
no subject
[ Mikoto throws a wide shrug of her shoulders before nodding in response. ] Yeah. Let's do this.
no subject
[IT'S A LOT OF MONEY OKAY.]
[sigh he can't believe he's doing this. this is so dumb. he does kind of want to go easy on her because look at her! She's just a kid! but this is also a matter of principle, he can't let himself lose and have his other students thinking he's a pushover. he needs them not incentivized to challenge him.]
[so he's going to fight her, and he's going to go hard, because sorry Mikoto--you get to be the "you should take me seriously" example for this year.]
[at least it's probably warm in contract duelspace...]
[When he brings them into the duel, his normal casual clothes switch out for armour--leather, not metal, he's a cleric come on--modeled after some obscure occult mythos. Which, if you knew it, would mark him pretty clearly as a demi-god known as the Vahishta. Deity of clerics. Normally he'd have a sword, too, but he knows enough about Mikoto's powerset to have left that out of this particular duel.]
[He doesn't waste any time getting started. No banter, no nothing, just straight into the fight. First up, magic shield - reduces the effect of any elemental attacks; her lightning won't hit him as hard. Second, right on its heels, a holy bolt. He's aiming to finish this as quickly as possible, so it's a strong one.]

[ Considering that Mikoto's from a rather wealthy family, it's practically nothing. But now that they're in the Duelspace, she doesn't have to hold back. Her power's at maximum, but she won't be going all out, if only because she has no plans on killing anybody today.
She doesn't want to become a murderer.
Mikoto doesn't hesitate as the bluish sparks of electricity spark from her fingertips, playing cautiously. Although she's excited she actually gets to fight, jumping in without knowing what the other person can do-- well, that's just suicidal. ]
Hopefully, you're not all just talk! [ She won't be using the Railgun just yet, but she will aim a strong amount of electricity directly at him. Enough to possible knock him unconscious, but not enough to kill. ]
no subject
[he does a dodge-roll away from her attack, comes up in a crouch]
The US median income [he slams a fist into the ground, sending a shockwave of blazing white holy magic at her] is $26,000 per person!
no subject
She can still manage small talk at least. ]
Well, $26,000 is nothing to me then!
no subject
Protip: Don't tell someone--
[he casts another holy bolt]
--who's $120,000 in debt--
[follows it up immediately with another shockwave, hoping to catch her wherever she dodged to]
--that it's not a lot of money!
[and follows THAT immediately with a large AoE in the form of a glowing pillar of light that will feel like getting hit by a truck.]
[it's fast. very fast. he's basically got instant or near-instant cast on almost all of his spells because he's a freakin' demi-god, so it's a sequence of attacks one right after the other with no room to breathe in-between. The first two aren't intended to hit her; they're intended to get her to dodge straight into the AoE at the end.]
no subject
[ She manages to dodge the bolts, but they aren't in the conventional way of dodging. She uses her electricity to lift more rubble off the ground, running towards the rubble and hoping on it, using her electricity and magnetism to ride on it like a hoverboard.
Of course she may not see the pillar of light coming, seeing as she's not a psychic, but she should sense it as it goes off, giving her enough time to land and use the rubble she was on to deflect the attack. But she isn't going to get by entirely unscathed by the blast. But at least she won't be taking the brunt of it. ]
Heh. Not bad...
no subject
[seems like he's not going to be able to hit her if he can't get her to hold still, so he decides to pull out his crowd control spell for this one. chains of light burst out of the ground beneath her, one for each limb, attempting to shackle her and hold her in place.]
[She might be able to dodge some of them, but she'll have to be amazingly fast to avoid all four.]
You're in for a real rude awakening when you hit the real world.
no subject
[ She may not know anything, but that's only because she's slightly naive in a sense. She knows fully well that she won't be able to dodge all of them, even with how quick she is and how finely tuned her senses are, she plans on at least making sure that her hands don't get tied down. Although it didn't matter if she was held down or not.
She could still work with this. Probably. ]
no subject
[If she's got her arms free, she'll at least be able to stay on the offensive, even if her evasion's been severely limited.]
no subject
She's getting more exhausted because she's using her ability a lot, but she can't lose here.
She can't lose here.
Going on sheer determination, electricity sparks from her fingertips as she starts to collect iron sand to make it into a sword to plan out her next attack. ]
no subject
[He's also been counting the seconds until those chains fade, and right before they do, he casts a holy burst--basically a big flashy attack that's main purpose is in its knockback effect. he's trying to send her and the rubble she's taken refuge in flying the instant the chains disappear.]
no subject
She has to prepare for that as well and grits her teeth. If she can't move then she'll just have to make the first move and at least stab him, transforming the sword into a whip and sending it towards his direction. It's at the same time as the burst, which causes her to fly backwards, her back slamming against the wall.
Thankfully it doesn't knock her unconscious, but it does cause a lot of damage. Hopefully the sword-slash-whip managed to hit him.
Just... as long as it's not in a vital spot. ]
S-- Shit.
no subject
Ow! Jesus fuckin' goddamn--
[injuries might hurt less in the duelscape BUT THEY STILL HURT. she managed to catch him in the side, right under the ribs, and the whip idea turned out to be tactically sound because that gave it enough force to go straight through his leather armour. he's got both hands pressed over the wound which is oozing a not-insignificant amount of blood.]
Alright--I deserved that, probably.
[a white glow appears under his hands and a couple seconds later he straightens, pulls his hands away from the injury, and shakes himself out to get back into the fight. It's healed, the whole thing pristine--leather restored, blood gone, like it never happened.]
[he can only fix things so thoroughly in the duelscape, sadly. in real life it's flesh and blood only.]
Please tell me you're ready to concede.
no subject
Not because he's serious, of course.
But because she could have seriously hurt him. She hadn't been paying close enough attention to aim properly. The sword's still there, of course -- it's like a chainsaw that can't break -- but soon enough, Mikoto just drops her hand, unclenching it as she allows the to dissipate back into dust.
Her gaze drops and she's staring at the floor beneath her feet, but she doesn't answer. Not at first.
She asks herself what's important. What's more important. She raises her head, rekindling her determination as she presses her lips together. ]
I won't give up. I plan on leaving the classroom and restoring power to the school as well as helping everyone else. [ At least she has her priorities set straight. ] Don't misunderstand me, though. I'm not doing this out of the goodness of my heart or because I want to play hero — I'm doing it because it's better than just sitting around doing nothing.
no subject
[HEAVY SIGH]
Mikoto, listen.
I'm not asking you to do nothing. I'm asking you to sit tight and wait until we have more information about what's going on and what needs to happen. It's about patience, not inaction, okay?
no subject
[ Sparks trickle yet again from the tips of her fingers. The power generated in it is a lot more powerful than it was before, if only because of her frustration.
Maybe she's being reckless, but she'll charge in, attacking with all she's got. ]
no subject
Yes! I am saying that!
[he's going to try to hit her with another holy pulse, to knock her back and put some distance between them again. unfortunately, it's very easy to dodge just by getting inside his arm's reach.]
Because there are people here who are paid to do that and letting you go out on your own is a liability!
no subject
Just because they're paid to do things doesn't mean they're good at it!
[ Mikoto can definitely talk as someone who gets near perfect grades and can literally hack into any system in the school with a simple cellphone device.
WHAT A CHEATER.
She lets a few sparks fly in his direction before taking a leap in the air; she needs to close the distance between the two of them and make sure that she reaches him. If she can get within a distance so she can touch him, it should be game, set, and match. In the meanwhile, she'll get to rebuilding the sword (more like a whip at this point) with the iron sand so she can use it to potentially deflect blows while she's still in midair.
Mikoto has the advantage while she's not on the ground, after all. ]
