[Guess who is bumming around campus while all you other losers are actually attending classes? This girl, that's who. You may find her wandering the grounds, lounging in trees with a pilfered snack, tucked away in a corner of the school buildings, inspecting a stolen trinket, testing the locks on the dormitory room windows and peering in to check for valuables...the sky's the limit, really.]

[She'll be around all day, so whether you want to go chasing down the little truant or run into her between classes or have her face just appear in your dormitory window at an unfortunate moment, she's available for you.]

[If it's valuables she wants, room CB2 is the place to be. Artemis has a box full of expensive-looking jewelry dumped out on his desk. Necklaces and rings and bracelets with silver settings, most with amethyst gemstones, but some with colourless black gems instead.]

[He was in process of separating the black ones out from the rest when he got called away for something. So now there's just a pile of expensive jewelry sitting next to the window, unguarded. The window's not even locked.]

[She stops at the window, hardly able to believe her luck. Look at that haul, practically already in arm's reach. She tests the lock - it's unlocked?]

Cor.

[A small voice in the back of her head advised caution. This must be too good to be true, surely? But the voice of her greed was far louder. Looking around carefully, she opens the window and clambers through.]

[Just in time for Artemis to return to the room. He gets as far as closing the door behind him when he sees her and freezes.]

[he sounds somewhere between bewildered and offended.] ... I beg your pardon.

[swarmoflies]

[She freezes, having barely touched down inside the room. Busted.]

You saw nothing!

[She spins around, reaching out to grab a handful of jewels off of the table as she does, and then dives for the window.]

Hey! [definitely indignant now]

[He thinks fast, using his gravity-magic to make the gems in her hands suddenly too heavy for her to carry. He hopes it will buy him enough time to cross the room and grab her by the shirt. It's not a very big room and he moves pretty fast, but she can probably still escape if she ditches the jewelry asap.]

[Unfortunately for her, by the time he does that it's no longer a simple matter of dropping them - she's already secreted them away into one of the many hidden pockets in her shirt. The sudden uptick in weight stumbles her, and she does a header right into the wall beneath the window.]

[ngl he finds it pretty satisfying to see a thief do a faceplant into the wall.]

[he grabs her by the collar, hauling her back from the wall, slamming the window shut with his other hand in the same motion.]

What is the meaning of this?!

[Sette finds it a lot less amusing. Her head hurts like a bitch.]

Window inspection! Just makin' sure yer windows are nice an' secure. And good thing I came by, too, you're wide open. You're gonna want to get someone in to look at that.

[The lies come so naturally to her she barely even has to think about them.]

[yeah he's. not buying it. nice try though, sette.]

Do you take me for a fool? Return what you took.

Return what? I didn't take nothing!

Then surely you wouldn't mind emptying your pockets to prove as much.

Sure thing!

[She reaches down to her jeans and turns her pockets inside-out. Nothing in them but a phone - which actually does belong to her, believe it or not. She holds up her hands, revealing them to be empty apart from the phone, which she does not put down. She's still waiting for a chance to book it in a hurry.]

See? I ain't got nothing of yours.

Mm hm. [skeptical]

[He gives her a shake. There it is, the telltale jingling of silver chain. He doesn't even say anything. He just gives her a Look.]

...you can't prove nothin'.

[graveyardmoon]

I do believe I just have.

[he takes his cell phone out of his pocket with his free hand, opening the camera app]

And unless you'd like to be reported to the administration for burglary, perhaps you should return my things.

You don't know! This school is fulla freaks! Maybe I just nat'rally jingle!

[She knows that isn't going to fly, though, and she doesn't want her picture taken. Begrudgingly, she reaches inside her shirt, and removes the jewel.]

[He takes it back and lets her go.]

[he frowns when he sees that it's one of the black ones, though.]

[sigh.]

Keep it.

[he shoves it back at her.]

...what, really?

[It's not the first time she's been given something she tried to steal, but usually it's like...food, or something like that. Not gemstones.]

Why, what's wrong with it?

It's empty.

I'm only going to waste postage sending it home to be disposed of.

[Empty? What the heck does that mean?]

Well, whatever you say, I'm sure the pawnman'll still pay good coin for it.

[She immediately secrets it away again.]

[yup, it's still worth quite a bit. Artemis is a rich brat who doesn't understand that his family resells those to recoup the money they spend on them in the first place.]

[he opens the window and motions sharply toward it]

Now if you would kindly vacate my premises.

[swarmoflies]

Fine by me.

[She clambers back out through the window, her mind already trying to pin a dollar value on that stone.]

You really should be more careful with yer rocks, though. Someone with fewer scruples might've taken them all!

[Guess who caught up with her, finally, some time in the afternoon.]

[Sette looks down. Ugh. The hall monitor.]

[he says, as he snaps a photo of her face anyway. hey, he only said he wasn't going to report her, not that he wasn't going to document her just in case.]
