Perhaps Fran and Rita were roommates last semester? Though she seemed to disappear a lot. And sometimes a cat was in the room and staring at Franziska for hours on end. Did she see the cat using Rita's tablet once?

Rita probably found Fran more 'annoying'... Though given she's kind of an angry sociopath herself, it's very probable the two grated each other due to matching personalities.

When Fran finds out Rita's actually a magical cat...
